Thank you all for being so diligent in helping to watch out for our neighbors and the community at large, without your extra ears and eyes our personal and property safety could be at greater risk. The first quarter crime report was excellent, the proactive stance on prevention and deterrence has made a big difference so far, more changes are planned to complete the task at hand - to make Southbridge the safest and most worry free community in Southeast Georgia.

One of the most reported and complained about problems continues to be traffic law enforcement, particularly speeding on our streets. You will be ticketed, these are public roads and the police officers are encouraged, make that highly motivated to issue citations for exceeding the 25 mph limit. We have walkers, runners, bicyclists, golf carts, pets and most importantly children to watch out for, please don't be the one to injure or kill someone because you couldn't leave 5 minutes earlier. Southbridge Blvd is approximately four miles long, at 60 mph hour ( which is simply ridiculous, but we're illustrating a point ) it would take you 4 minutes to pass through from one entrance to another, at 25 mph it takes 9 minutes to make the same trip. The average speeding ticket is for 45 mph, total time to make that same trip at that speed is 5.5 minutes, Is a human life worth those 3.5 minutes extra between 45 and 25 mph? How about the $170.00 speeding ticket plus increased insurance premiums? There will be no warnings, only citations, please do not speed.

Eyes in the Sky

Southbridge HOA installed video surveillance cameras last year and they have been responsible for catching several law breakers: In February of 2007 the newly elected association area representatives approved the erection of four new strategically placed large reflective video notification signs to act as a further crime deterrent.

Police patrols were increased on various days and shifts, these combined efforts have proven to be very effective.

Up next will be improved lighting at both the DFR and Berwick entrances.
